Hines appoints world’s largest hotel company - InterContinental Hotels Group
New Hindmarsh Square hotel named Crowne Plaza Adelaide
InterContinental Hotels Group network of upscale Crowne Plaza hotels continues to expand in Australia with today's announcement that it has won the contract to manage the hotel component of leading South Australian developer, Hines Property's $150 million multi-use project in Hindmarsh Square, Adelaide, due for completion late 2009.
The latest project in an unprecedented development boom for the city, the hotel and luxury residential complex - known as 20 Hindmarsh Square - received planning approval in September and will provide a much-needed boost to the availability of upscale accommodation in Adelaide. The hotel, with its direct park frontage, will include 314 rooms over 15 storeys, extensive premium meeting and event space located on the top floor of the building, as well as restaurants, bar, business centre, swimming pool and fitness club.
The hotel, to be named Crowne Plaza Adelaide, will become IHG's second managed property in the South Australian capital, joining Holiday Inn on Hindley Adelaide. It will enter the network of the world's fastest-growing upscale hotel brand, currently numbering 14 Crowne Plaza hotels in Australia, more than 280 hotels globally and over 70 in the pipeline.
"There is a real need for an increase in quality accommodation in Adelaide since the demand for four- to five-star hotel rooms regularly exceeds the available supply. We've been looking for the right opportunity to establish our Crowne Plaza brand in the city of Adelaide and this project certainly fits the bill," said IHG chief operating officer Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific, Keith Barr.

Hines Property is no stranger to Adelaide's Hindmarsh Square, with construction recently commenced on their Conservatory development - a 19 level mixed use commercial and residential tower - and they have recently completed The Residence - a residential and serviced apartment hotel development. Hines Property appointed IHG to manage the hotel component of its latest project following a competitive selection process.

Upon opening, Crowne Plaza Adelaide will offer the full range of Crowne Plaza brand services, including the Meeting Success suite of products designed for professional meeting organisers and delegates and the ground-breaking Body and Soul healthy in-room dining menu.
